2015 Final Blog

I will never forget Corinna school because of all my good moments like in 2013 we won the Robbie Fruean shield and this year in athletics I made it in for inter school and made it in regional's.

I will never ever forget my friends because there are always there for me when I am sad to be leaving in 2017.I will miss my favourite teachers Miss Ardelle because I like the way she explains in a easier way so I can understand the problem and solve.

I will never ever forget all the sports I went to and represented Corinna School. In Corinna I have developed lots of memories and going to college in 2 years will be hard to develope even more memories until I am a year 13.

Next year when I am year 8 I want to be remembered for my leadership and taking risks and being a rolemodel for the little ones.I would love to leave a long loving memory of myself because when I leave Corinna I won’t the juniors to say that they want to be like the role model and leader that I know I can be.

For the last few days of school I want to be a leader that I know I can be.I am going to leave all the negative stuff behind me and just pick up the positive stuff and show it and improve it.

21st Century Learning

21st century learning Is using technology like Chromebooks and working together to take risks and solve problems.  21st century learning is 100% better then the olden days!

The old way of learning was about students sitting at tables in straight rows and wearing proper clothes. You were never allowed to question the teacher because they think it’s disrespectful. The teachers use to whack the students if they  got an answer wrong. They  were so strict

But now, 21st century learning is awesome because you have learning buddies to help you learn. You have teachers to help you understand something you don’t know. We work together in learning teams to solve difficult problems. We need to take risks and be confident to share our ideas. We are all responsible for our learning.

21st century learning is like having choice on what you want to work on and you have choice on who you want to work with to help each other.

In good friday you have to be able to work with people from other classes and people who are older or younger then you.You have to be able to be able to self manage and use you're key competencie skills and be a leader amongst you're group.

Kapo Kapo (Pasifika Group) Key Competencies

In kapo kapo practise I have to join in drumming because it is my first time drumming for anything for school. When I am drumming I drum at a pace that the rest of the drummers can keep up with me.When I am drumming for the Samoan group I am doing the beat at a minim in speed so the group has time to think of the actions before doing it.

When we performed on Wednesday I had to do the drum at a correct speed. When we do practise the skills I use is self manage because on the night I am sitting on a chair where the audience see me.

When I was dancing I had to do it proudly and to do it properly and to represent Corinna school by not talking and respecting and making the crowd think "Wow that school is so respectful"

When I am drumming for the group to come on I have to listen to the rest of the drummers so I can keep in beat and how fast I should drum.

Next Steps:Are to not talk on the stage.

Rugby Key Competencies

I can use my key competencies when I am on the rugby field I can use appropriate body language such as facial expressions when I am on the field. My evidence is when the referee pulls me out for doing something wrong I can respect the referee's decision and just carry on playing.

Also when I am on the rugby field I can use my thinking skills because when I am thinking I think of when I am going to pass the ball and who to pass it to.My evidence is when I am thinking of passing it to someone and how hard to pass the ball.

When I am on the sports field I can use my self managing skills because when I am a reserve I can support instead of mucking around on the sideline I can support my team.My evidence is that when I am sitting on the sideline I support my team to keep playing, have fun, play fair and play hard.

I can use commitment to go to trainings and put heaps of effort into training so when it comes to the day we play the team know's the basics to use in the game we can win. When we are training and other people are late I include them if they are shy.

My next steps:Are to set up the back line and to call out plays and to think where I should kick it.

Writing Learning Story

In writing I have been learning to write a narrative about WW1.  I had to try and put myself in the soldiers shoes and describe what my character felt like, and what he did when he got the letter from the army.

I can include adjectives and similes to entertain the reader and paint a picture in their head and I am learning to use interesting adverbs to describe how the character is doing something.

In writing I try and use group ideas in paragraphs and put my ideas in order so the reader doesn't get mixed up or confused.

I also use what I have learnt from reading to help me explain, describe in my own writing.

When I am writing an explanation, I include a introduction to hook the reader in and explain what my writing is about. I use facts to explain my ideas and at the end I write a conclusion.

In writing I have been learning how to use phrases.Phrases helps the writer explain the verb so it can be more interesting.

In my writing sample Miss Ardelle said that my writing about why we should commemorate was amazing because I used lots of emotive language in my writing.

In my writing I added heaps of describing words and naming words so my writing could be more interesting to the teachers. In writing I have improved I know this because Miss Ardelle said that my piece of writing that I did for the writing sample was a level 4 piece of writing.

My next steps:To add in more punctuation in my writing.

Reading Learning Story

In reading I have been learning how to use researching skills using books, school journals and the internet to find information about WW1,WW2,Vietnam war, and the Korean war.

When I went to the library with my group we read a lot about the Maori battalion and WW1. I used skimming and scanning to help me find information and solve the questions quickly.

I found out that we got involved in WW1 because the British Empire needed help so then N.Z helped them and thousands of soldiers died at Gallipoli Peninsula.

As I am reading a book about the war.I ask my self questions like where did the war take place? Or what are they fighting over? When I am reading I use connections to what I have already learnt about the war to help me get more ideas and understand more about the war.

When I am reading I visualise what the author wrote and think about how they are trying to hook me in. I try to explain what the author means and what the author is trying to say.Sometimes we need to read between the lines because sometimes the author doesn't tell us all the information. We need to look for clues in the text to help us.

To help with my research I use appropriate websites so I can get more information. I write down the key information and make notes so I can remember it when I summarise the information in my own words.

I learned heaps about all the wars NZ was involved in and about the people who went to war and how it affected them.

My Next Steps:

To find appropriate websites to help me with my research on my own and be able to compare the information on the websites to know if it is useful and true.

Maths Learning Story

In maths we learn how to friendly argue. Friendly arguing is when you disagree with your learning team, but use respectful manners to do this. When you use friendly arguing you are not disagreeing with the person, you're disagreeing with the strategy that they use. I use friendly arguing to help my team think twice about their strategy and if it was the best strategy to use.

I have also been learning to work as a group and to be confident to share my ideas with my learning group. When I am working with a group I always try and include people who don't know what to do so that they are not passengers, and can explain how to solve the problem.

In maths I always try to solve the problem quickly. I visualise the problem to see what the problem looks like and what it's asking me to do. I discuss the problem with my group and talk about what is the best strategy to use. We have been learning to use multiplication strategies because it is more efficient.

An example is when I used place value partitioning. An example is when I solved the conscription problem

I knew the problem was 96 x 15=

so I did (90x10)+(90x5)+(10x6)+(6x5)= (900+450+60+30) then I went 90+1,350
after I thought WOW that is to hard to add up.So I rounded up the 90 to 100 then (100+1,350=1,450 then 1,450-10=1,350) the reason why I subtracted 10 is because I added 10 to round (90 to 100.)

I also try to ask questions like "can you explain your strategy?" or "do you understand?" When I am explaining my strategy I make sure my group understands it and that they are able to explain my strategy back to me.

Everyone in the group has a role and responsibility to  share their ideas, help each other, include everyone and participate.I am also a Role Model for the year 6 people I work with sometimes.

Next steps:My next steps are to try and let other people write their thoughts and their strategies.
